Service and Leadership Around the World

At St. Louis College of Pharmacy, we think about service globally. We believe that building stronger communities in our backyard and across the world builds healthier societies.

Whether it is through safe medication disposal or building homes with Habitat for Humanity International, we are passionate about supporting the communities in which we grow.

Serving Locally

Every November, as part of the College’s Founders Day celebration, the College community comes together for a day of volunteering across the St. Louis area for STLCOP C.A.R.E.S. (Community Awareness Reaching Everyone in St. Louis), a student organized community service event.

Since STLCOP C.A.R.E.S. was integrated into the Founders Day celebration, more than 950 students, faculty, staff have donated their time at 38 nonprofit organizations and 49 pharmacy sites across the St. Louis area.

The College is also a champion of safe medication disposal. Through the St. Louis Medication Disposal Initiative and the Missouri Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal Initiative, students make a direct impact in our local community.

Every year, the College collaborates with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging to conduct a door-to-door take-back event a week before National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

To date, students have helped collect thousands of pounds of unused and expired medication. The College participates also in the St. Louis Earth Day Recycling Extravaganza, collecting hundreds of prescription and non-prescription medication for safe and sustainable medication disposal.

Service and Leadership Around the World

The College believes in expanding horizons through international experiences and outreach that showcase the global impact our students can have in health care.

Since 2013, more than 100 students have participated in international service work through the Office of International Programs, helping to build homes and install “health home kits” for impoverished families through Habitat for Humanity International.

For professional students, the College offers opportunities to complete final-year rotations around the world focusing on global health issues.

Students have completed thousands of hours of service and traveled hundreds of thousands of miles to provide patient care and service abroad.
