What to Expect

From your first day at St. Louis College of Pharmacy, you’ll join a diverse group of fellow students in a challenging learning environment where you’ll develop practical expertise and position yourself to be a leader in the profession and in your community.

At St. Louis College of Pharmacy, you’ll immerse yourself in one of the world’s finest medical complexes, enjoy small class sizes, and develop strong, mentoring relationships with faculty and staff.

The Pharm.D. Program

In STLCOP’s seven-year program, you’ll experience an innovative teaching model that will prepare you for the expanding role of pharmacists in patient-centered, interprofessional health care teams. You may even decide to pursue one of our professional elective tracks or certificate programs. And you won’t be skimping on the basics: after four years in the program you’ll earn a Bachelor of Science degree that recognizes your strong preparation in math and science as well as a well-rounded education in the arts and sciences.

Along the way, you can participate in service projects, volunteer opportunities, and traditional campus activities such as sports and extracurricular clubs.

Opportunities open to Pharm.D. graduates include practice in a variety of areas:

  • Community pharmacy
  • Hospital and clinical pharmacy
  • Managed care
  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Academia
  • Consultant pharmacy

Required and elective coursework, introductory practice experiences, and advanced practice experiences under the guidance of professional preceptors comprise the Pharm.D. curriculum.

The first three years of education at STLCOP focus on pre-professional studies. Courses include traditional liberal arts, such as biology, chemistry, humanities, psychology, and sociology.

St. Louis and the Cental West End

St. Louis, and the surrounding metro area, has something to offer everyone. STLCOP is located in the heart of the city’s premier health care complex. We are forging professional and educational partnerships with our neighbors:Washington University School of Medicine, Saint Louis University, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College.

By working with local organizations, such as the Missouri Pharmacy Association, the St. Louis Asthma Consortium and JDRF, we enrich our community while providing valuable opportunities for volunteerism and involvement among our students, faculty, staff and alumni.
