What We Do
Diversity acknowledges and promotes the respect, acceptance, understanding, and equal treatment of all the ways in which people differ including age, race, gender, ethnicity, mental and physical abilities, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. STLCOP promotes a safe learning environment that encourages community members to explore, embrace, and celebrate the rich dimensions of diversity that each individual represents.
Our vision is to be a model of inclusion that affirms identity and challenges campus community members to go beyond tolerance and actively engage and embrace differences to grow intellectually, personally, socially, and professionally to serve ever-changing patient populations and contribute to our heterogeneous society.
The Office of Inclusion & Diversity (OID) provides the resources, expertise and experiences, and assessment to the members of the campus community that enable its members to achieve the STLCOP vision of diversity. It does this by:
- Building an inclusive, equitable, culturally competent campus community
- Promoting diversity and multiculturalism
- Providing programs that assist in advocacy, recruitment, retention, outreach, mentoring, and advising
St. Louis College of Pharmacy offers enriching educational and co-curricular experiences in an inclusive environment that nurtures the intellectual and professional growth of its students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The College is committed to providing an education that prepares students to thrive in a global society enriched with multiculturalism and encouraging and supporting leadership in the community and profession. STLCOP espouses the value of diversity that respects ethnicity, ideology, and multiple identities while broadening a world-view that nurtures compassion and empathy, and increases the awareness of social justice. In order to do this, we have to show:
- Mutual respect - recognition of the rights of all individuals
- Understanding - seek and create opportunities to understand our own and others values, beliefs, and ideas
- Inclusive excellence
- A safe and positive environment
