Fraternities and sororities are social organizations at colleges and universities.

Traditional fraternities are often called "social fraternities.” Two additional types of fraternities, professional fraternities and honor societies, incorporate some limited elements of traditional fraternity organization but are generally considered a different type of association.

At STLCOP, we host one honor society, one social fraternity and six professional fraternities.

Honor Society: Rho Chi Honors Society (see “Other Professional Student Organizations)

Pharmacy Leadership: Phi Lambda Sigma (see “Other Professional Student Organizations)

Social fraternity: Lambda Chi Alpha

Professional fraternities:

Alpha Zeta Omega
Delta Sigma Theta
Kappa Epsilon
Kappa Psi
Lambda Kappa Sigma
Phi Delta Chi

Generally, membership in a fraternity is obtained while an undergraduate student but continues, thereafter, for life. At STLCOP, you can participate in the recruitment and new member process as a sophomore, junior, senior, transfer, or professional student, provided you meet the 2.7 cumulative GPA expectation and (for those who entered STLCOP in Fall of 2017) a 2.7 GPA in your core science classes.
While individual fraternities vary in exact organization and purpose, at STLCOP the fraternities share these common elements:

  • Secrecy
  • Selection of new members on the basis of a two-part vetting and probationary process known as recruitment and new member orientation.
  • Use of a set of complex identification symbols including Greek letters, armorial achievements, ciphers, badges, grips, hand signs, passwords, flowers, and colors.

Fraternities sometimes engage in philanthropic activities, provide "finishing" training for new members, such as instruction on etiquette, dress, and manners, and create networking opportunities for their newly graduated members. At STLCOP, the fraternities focus on leadership, philanthropy and community development
