Research & Scholarship
Research and Scholarship
Rapid advances in health care have come about because of medical and scientific discoveries made in labs on college campuses and in industry. At St. Louis College of Pharmacy, research improves the education of students while fostering better patient care in the pharmacy profession.
Faculty at St. Louis College of Pharmacy are collaborating in three areas of focus:
Health Literacy
Health Literacy is defined as “the wide range of skills and competencies that people develop to seek out, comprehend, evaluate, and use health information and concepts to make informed choices, reduce health risks, and increase quality of life. Faculty at STLCOP collaborate to integrate health literacy principles into pharmacy education and practice to empower individuals and communities to implement informed health decisions consistent with their own values. For more information, please contact Dr. Tricia Berry.
Pedagogical Research
St. Louis College of Pharmacy faculty are an interdisciplinary community of scholars who support, facilitate, and stimulate both disciplinary and interdisciplinary pedagogical research and dissemination. For more information, please contact Dr. Margaret Weck.
Office for Research on Aging
The Office for Research on Aging at St. Louis College of Pharmacy was instituted in 1993 to encourage and facilitate studies of aging humans within the field of pharmacy. The office promotes gerontological research within the clinical aspects of pharmacy practice, as well as both basic and applied research of the physiological, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of aging. The office presents campus programs; develops proposals; seeks donations, external funding, and sponsored projects; conducts research; provides program evaluation services; prepares appropriate reports of these activities, and assists others in doing the same. The office sponsors a Fall Lecture Program on topics of general interest, a Spring Lecture Program on current research, and an on-campus Gerontology Interest Group. A newsletter, The Office Report, is distributed biannually.
Student Research Opportunities
STLCOP is committed to engaging interested students in research and scholarship. For more information, please contact Dr. Peter Hurd.
