Student Perspectives

Our students share their experience serving others and exploring different cities. Through firsthand accounts, students explain what they enjoyed about their rotations and the amazing patients they encountered along the way.

South Africa

(Advanced pharmacy practice rotation)

P4 students Lan Ho and Adrienne Ford visited Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and our partner institution Nelson Mandela University (NMU). Over the course of four weeks, the students assisted patients at local pharmacies, provided public health counseling at a mobile clinic, toured hospitals and lead class presentations at NMU.

Ireland

(Advanced pharmacy practice rotation)

P4 students Mara Hofherr, Daniel Britt, Bethany Chew and Amy Suh completed a research-driven APPE at Trinity College Dublin. On rotation, they had the opportunity to work on experimental processes regarding powder flow as well as work with the Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Aging (IDS-TILDA), an established research team at Trinity College Dublin.

China

(Advanced pharmacy practice rotation)

P4 students Chelsea Steppig, Jinwook Kang, Robin Yang and Joanna Huang completed an APPE in China. They traveled to Beijing to learn about the hospital system, pharmacy education and clinical pharmacy at Peking Union Medical College Hospital.

Nepal

(Advanced pharmacy practice rotation)

P4 students Mara Hofherr and Trey Weishaar served on the pharmacy team for a health camp in rural Nepal through the Karma Thalo Foundation.

Portugal

(Advanced pharmacy practice rotation)

P4 students Nicolette Duong and Georgiana Boeckmann visited Lisbon, Portugal. This rotation gave them the opportunity to tour a family-owned independent pharmacy, International Pharmaceutical Federation, and INFARMED - National Authority of Medicines and Health Products. In addition, Duong and Boeckmann conducted research by mapping pharmacy competencies in order to help improve patient care.

United Kingdom

(Advanced pharmacy practice rotation)

P4 students Katelynn Pike and Meghan Byars visited London, England. On rotation, they assisted patients at a local pharmacy and learned about the United Kingdom's health care system.

India

(Advanced pharmacy practice rotation)

P4 students Anthony Xavier, Anna McGee, Heenal Parikh, Catherine Hilty and Sarah Osborn completed a rotation in India at Goa College of Pharmacy. During this unique immersion experience, the students spent time at a community pharmacy in Goa, and at Goa Medical College and Hospital. They also participated in lectures at Goa College of Pharmacy and had opportunities to give presentations and attend cultural events.
